Marketing
Marketing is a catch-all term for the things that you do to promote your business. It encompasses many different things, from outlining your target market to knowing how to help your products and services stand out from the competition. Something to pay close attention to are your marketing channels. A marketing channel is essentially a pathway by which you get your goods to their future rightful owner. There are a few different channels you might consider, in these include direct, retail, and wholesale.
So, how do you know which channel is the right one? Start by getting to know your clients. Are they driving on the interstate? If so, start with a billboard and sell directly. Are they impulse shoppers? Going retail might be a smart route. If you’re looking for volume, consider wholesale, which puts someone else in charge of selling individual items.
Messaging
Once you have determined the appropriate marketing channel(s) and you know your customers, you have to decide how, exactly, to get your message across. Using an example near and dear to our hearts, imagine that you’re an up-and-coming clothing designer. Your target market is people that want to stay up-to-date on the latest trends in fashion. For this, you might want to consider planning a fashion show, which should start with choosing a venue that complements your collection.
The example above is extremely niche, but there are other ways to get your message across, no matter what business you’re in. Key to these is social media. Sites, such as Google My Business, Instagram, and TikTok can help get your message in front of hundreds of millions of users every day.
Materialization
Fast forward. You know your marketing channels and your message is being spread far and wide. But, how do you know it’s working? The obvious answer here is to check your sales. You see an increase in orders or purchases that correlate with the release of a new marketing strategy, that’s a good sign. But, there are other ways to see if your outreach efforts are effective, even if they have yet to generate revenue.
Surveys, focus groups, and even in-store traffic can help you determine how your potential and current customers view your products. These are also valuable tools that you can use to make changes to meet demand. For example, if surveys indicate that you need to bundle products or increase shipping time, you can tweak your online store or provide free shipping to compensate for any shipping delays your customers might experience.
Marketing isn’t always easy, but it is something that you can do on your own. As a fresh new company, you’re on the ground floor of your success, all you have to do is get your products to the masses. Remember the three Ms, and don’t lose sight of your end goals, which are to market your business, get your message across, and see your efforts materialize in a boosted bottom line.
